Clinging to my Elfriede consciousness:
Learning,
my life did not end with a period:
There is no measured time
only, the remembered past:
Learning, how fragile a hearth is human kind
for the fiery gifts
of our magnificent powers to choose:
Learning,
the memory path of Lazarus
is part of all who live:
All triumphs and mistakes of two thousand years,
watching the staged rising and fallings of mighty empires:
Knowing, our memory is stage manager,
actor, presenter and recorder,
of man's burning choices:
Knowing,
it has always been and always will be,
playing again and again on new stages,
using myth as metaphor for memory
held in our universal consciousness:
Always continuing to sacrifice
legions of slaughtered youth
on the altar fires of old men's myths ...
