No one traveled as far as he
To escape the darkness of Calvin's clutch
And to become friend of those in the night
Who would draw their curtains to the light.
The early death of his first beloved
Taught him life's " Process " is a living truth
And opened his travel path to reveal,
Like Ezekiel's dream, "A Wheel Within A Wheel"
He left Concord to deliver invitations to dance
To the cadence of the whirling world and teach
That, in the darkest, meanest things,
There - Always - Always - Something Sings.
On morning walks his neighbor friends
Thought him their strolling , resident saint
And would nod and smile but would not call,
Thinking we are nothing , but the light is all.
He stopped for death in his village home
To sleep in peace on an Author's Ridge.
His flesh of words that each generation saves,
May last longer than the granite on their graves.
"EVANESCENT EMILY"
She didn't travel as far as He
But took his gift
Of the Circled Words of flesh -
To write "Love Letters To The World" -
Always staying close to home to bake
The family bread - Her mail from Tunis,
Delivered by Hummingbird -
Views all the Rooftops of Rome
Thru the multiple eye of a Single Fly -
Early too - she loses her only love
And between Loneliness and Nothing -
She chooses Loneliness -
Slim - Elusive figure in white -
Darting like a wren - Behind closed doors -
Down dark hallways - She climbs
To Paradise on a Stairway of Surprise -
She could not stop for Death -
So he kindly stopped for Her -
When they carried her body thru the Buttercups
She has Traveled As Far As Mr. " E ".
