Walking by our wall
in your fading light
hear the timeless wails
of our old parishioners
rising out of graves
like endless wind
of gentle pleading questions
left hanging in sea mist
as swirling fragile odes.
See our posted birth sign
celebrating in a passing flash
of four hundred years
holding out our hopes
of practicing religious space
bordering upon historical space.
Hear questions not pleaded
for you "Come Afters"
but, pleasing the shades
of shadowy forgotten forebearers
whose salty sea breath
still retains their questions.
