What have we done
with our angel cousins
Who were created separately and given free will
to walk beside us in our Parade To Paradise ?
They still call the cadence that marches us back
to our spirit beginnings.
These strong marchers wrestled with Jacob
and rolled the stones from doors of tombs
They were fearsome creatures with flashing swords
Guarding The East Gate Of Eden.
They whispered the Koran
into the ear of Mohammed.
They still stand in mosques to hear the prayers
of the faithful.
Angel voices guided Lord Christ in the desert.
Angel marches bridge the gap between God and me.
Can our new age angelogists turn them into tame pets
to be summoned at will
to deal in discount spirituality ?
Suppose, they summon the fallen angel Lucifer ?
who comes in smiling light.
Suppose the summons is for the fallen Iblis
with his non-redemptive sin of pride.
These lithesome spirits between Heaven and me
allow my universe to be
at once mysterious and divine.
A modern concept can never make them so mellow
as to be meaningless.
