Walking by neat green lawns in McLean
With his " Pooper Scooper " and large plastic bag,

Buchanan " PAT " makes us wait for his anguished midnight resolutions
To move the power stakes of turf and enclose
His chosen peasants with pitchforks. The sweet sound of
Their applause heightens the brutal flow of his elocution
To objectify and pound the same old selected scapegoats.
He slips into ancient adolescence to forget voices and events
From our earlier edge of memory. Blinded by the stinking
Veil of raging ambition, he no longer
Remembers:

Perot " ROSS " pointing trembling fingers into the eyes of his
" Pitchfork Battalions " and declaring the government had put
A spy into his toaster.
No longer remembers:

" GEORGE W. ", strutting on the Hustings, dripping with hate
And promises, stolen from the rooms of history.
No longer remembers:

" JIM ", who gathered his thousand to meet in the dark alley
Behind appearances and drink cyanide Kool Aid.
Forgets:
Farrakhan
" LOUIS ", who even this moment, is creating a media
Scene where logic and madness duel.

Hitler Promising,
To get the trains back on schedule one pissed off
Paper hanger was saluted and assisted in the
Broiling of six million innocents.

In our selective silence
We sense what appeal to our dark side these exotic hunters
Can make. Knowing at last, they are straightaway dangerous
We can only wait until they fall so far in love
With their reflected images in the jungle pools,
They tumble in and drown.

Some Information About the Above Poem

Allegory: Fable in Brazil - The Jag'uar is so beautiful: he sits by river - admiring his reflection in water - until - mesmerized - falls in and drowns self.

Pat Buchannon - Against more things than for anything - a "Populist" runs for President.

Ross Perot - A rich, eccentric - also runs for President.

Geroge Wallace - A "red neck" also ran for President.

Jim Jones - Had a thousand followers give him their government checks.

Louis Farrakan - A Calypso singer. Took over "Elijay Mohammed's flock of Muslims." Hates everybody.

We helped Hitler gain power by being "isolationists."

Jason Lester Atkins - June 12, 2002.
