Frog Dancer Just barely dusk I watch
the warm mist curtain being parted
to present the silent silver stage

wondering, if Grace descends at nightfall
awakening syncopated frog choruses
to chant the great "Aa-Uuu-Mmmmm"

like brown caped monks transformed;
using their great leaping legs
to become cosmic ballet dancers,

while twisting, dancing, singing,
still opening the universe's stored treaasure
to our most ancient memory sounds.

Do these frogs with their big eyes
bother to dance above the silver stage
to see, the clouds, the trees and me

or, does Grace descend to part the mist
and light the stage when my mind changes
to enlarge the things it can call beautiful?
