Documentation of Joseph Porter at The Battle of Kings Mountain

In the book The Patriots of Kings Mountain, by Bobby Gilmer Moss, Copyright 1990, on page 154 the name of Captain William Lenoir is listed as being at the battle. Captain Lenoir resided in Wilkes County, North Carolina, the same place that Joseph Porter was living. Captain Lenoir provided a handwritten list of the names of the men who where under his command at The Battle of Kings Mountain. The name of Joseph Pourter (Porter) is on that list (see two documents below).

In the second document below, the last name of Joseph Pourter is partially obstructed by the name above it on the list. However, the names of Pleasent Profit and George Parks on that same list have been positively identified. If you examine the capital letter "P" in their names and compare it to the "P" in Pourter it is obvious that his name is indeed Joseph Pourter. This list was handwritten by Captain Lenoir (his name is at the top of both documents), and Captain Lenoir spelled each man's name the way it sounded to him (Pourter is Porter).
