Reverend Robert "Robin" Kilgore:
Born April 22, 1765.
Died March 29, 1854 (Age 88 Years, 11 months, 7 days).
Robert built and lived in Fort Kilgore located 1.3 miles west of Nickelsville, Virginia on Hwy. 71.
Robert was a minister for over 50 years.
In 1785 Robert married Jane Porter-Green.
Jane was born September 9, 1761.
Jane died September 25, 1842 (Age 81 years and 16 days).
Jane Porter-Green was the daughter of Patrick Porter, who was a Mason (1737-1805). Patrick is buried in Scott County in a cemetery near where his forthouse stood. Patrick doesn't have a grave marker.
Jane's first husband, James Green, Sr. was killed in 1782 by the Indians one-year after their marriage.
Jane had one son James Green, Jr., born February 12, 1783.

The Kilgore Fort is located on Highway 71 about 2 miles West of Nickelsville, Virginia on the east side of Copper Creek. Rev. Robert Kilgore and his wife Jane reared their nine children at the fort.
Jane Porter Green was the daughter of Patrick Porter. Jane was the young widow of James Green, Sr.
James and Robert Kilgore (who married Winney Clayton), were both killed by the Indians on Indian Creek at the Pound in Wise County on December 21, 1782.
Jane Porter-Green was pregrant with a son when her husband was killed and she named him James Green, Jr.
Source of Records Russell County Order Book No 3 page 266 dated December 1803 which states:
Ordered that it be certified to the Register of the Land Office that it is proven to this court that James Green Jr, is the son and heir in law of James Green Sr.; who was killed by the Indians on December 21, 1782, and the said James Green Jr. was born on Feb. 12, 1783.

Robert and Jane are both buried near the entrance to the Cemetery beside the Nickelsville First Baptist Church. The mason emblem is at the top of Robert's tombstone. A Holy Bible is at the top of Jane's tombstone.

Robert and Jane had 9 children as follows:
  1. Reverend Charles Kilgore:
    Born December 1, 1785.
    Died 1857.
    In 1812 Charles married Mary "Polly" Gray (1796-1877).
  2. Susan Kilgore:
    Born June 2, 1788.
    In 1807 Susan married Peter Bays and they moved to Kentucky.
    Peter and Susan had 3 daughters as follows:
    1. Anna Bays married Ira Penley.
    2. Betsey Bays married Samuel Penley.
    3. Rachael Bays married Hiram Penley.
  3. Robert Kilgore, Jr.:
    Born February 12, 1791.
    Robert married Elizabeth Gray (1801-?)
  4. Jane Kilgore:
    Born July 20, 1793.
    In 1810 Jane married William Bays and they moved to Kentucky.
  5. Winnie Kilgore:
    Born April 10, 1796.
    In 1813 Winnie married John Broadwater.
  6. Nancy Kilgore:
    Born July 15, 1799.
    In 1818 Nancy's first marriage was to David Alley.
    In 1838 Nancy's second marriage was to Samuel Strong.
  7. Anna Kilgore:
    Born June 15, 1801.
    Anna married Trig Pendleton.
  8. Esther Kilgore:
    Birth date unknown.
    In 1788 Esther married Lewis Green, Jr. He was a brother to the James Green who was killed by the Indians and they were the sons of Lewis Green, Sr.
  9. Mary Kilgore:
    Born December 21, 1807.
    Mary married William Moore and they moved west.
