    John W. Johnson was in the Civil War, Private Company B, 39th Infantry (Us). Enlisted September 6, 1862 and was in Company B by Feb. 16, 1863. Listed as deserted March 25, 1863. He states he was discharged in 1864.
    On May 29, 1860 John married Melissa Meade, daughter of Henry Meade and Mary Culbertson.
    Melissa was born about April 1837 in Russell County, Virginia.
