Lemuel George Washinton Carty (L.G.W.):
Born February 16, 1839.
On June 1, 1859 Lemuel married his First Wife Mary Dorton.
Mary is buried at the William Dorton Cemetery. This cemetery contains the grave of Captain William Dorton, Jr., who was an early Russell County militia officer, and the graves of some of his descendants. In Memory of William Dorton (Capt. William Dorton Jr.; son of William & Elizabeth Dorton, Born in the year of 1750. Died December 10, 1826.)
Mary's father, Moses Dorton, helped in the construction of Molls Creek Church in the late 1840's.
Lemuel and Mary had 3 children before Mary died:
- William D. Carty:
Born March 6, 1860.
William married Mary A. E. Porter.
- James L. Carty:
Born March 1862.
Died April 1862.
- Sarah Janes Carty:
Born June 15, 1863.
Died December 13, 1930.
Sarah married Joseph Franklin Marion Johnson, son of James Harvey Johnson and Margaret Jane Monk.
Joseph was born October 30, 1860.
Joseph died May 22, 1936.
On March 19, 1867 Leumuel married Mary Polly Culbertson.
Mary was born in 1838. (After Lemuel died Mary married James Mays but she and James had no children.
)
Leumel and Mary had 4 children as follows:
- Mary "Mollie" Isabelle Carty (Also known as "Aunt Mollie Porter"):
Born April 1867.
Died August 1948.
Mary married Harvey S. Porter.
Harvey was born January 20, 1865.
Harvey died January 1920.
Aunt Mollie was a descentant of Joseph Porter through his daughter, Mary, that married William Johnson.
Their daughter Nancy Johnson married John P. Carty, grandparents of Mollie.
- Lafayette George Washington Carty:
Born October 30, 1868.
Died December 19, 1946 and buried at Temple Hill Memorial Park, Castlewood, Virginia.
Lafayette's first marriage was to Mary Alice Hamilton, daughter of William Hamilton and Highley Baker Hamilton. Highley (Hila) was the daughter of John Baker and Mary Minton. William Hamilton was the son of James Hamilton and Mary "Polly" Kilgore-Hamilton.
Lafayette's second marriage was to Lizzie Fields.
Lafayette and Lizzie had no children.
- John Patrick Carty:
Born October 15, 1871 at Bull Run, Wise County, Virginia.
Died October 11, 1937 in Russell County, Virginia.
On December 4, 1895 John married City Casteel Johnson.
- Joseph C. Carty.
- Katie Carty.
