James Culbertson:
Born January 19, 1765 in Caswell County, North Carolina.
Died January 14, 1823 at Fort Blackmore, Scott County, Virginia.
James was a Revolutionary War Soldier.
On December 15, 1785 James married Mary Kilgore in Caswell County, North Carolina.
Mary Kilgore was the daughter of Charles Kilgore and Winnie Clayton.
Mary was born on February 3, 1766 in Caswell County, North Carolina.
Mary died in March 1845 in Scott County, Virginia.
In 1787 James and Mary moved to Scott County, Virginia.
In 1799 they owned 400 acres.
On May 25, 1805 James and Mary joined the Stoney Creek Church by letter.
James and Mary had 12 children as follows:
  1. Sydney Culbertson:
    Born September 17, 1786.
    Died after 1860.
    About 1816 Sydney married Joseph Hamilton, Sr.
  2. Tyree Culberson:
    Born October 17, 1788.
    Died November 12, 1850.
    On May 2, 1810 Tyree married Martha (Mattie) Vicars, daughter of Robert Vicars.
  3. Elizabeth Culberson:
    Born August 29, 1791.
    Elizabeth married Thomas Walker and they moved to Green County, Tennessee.
  4. Sibella Culbertson:
    Born August 10, 1793.
    Sibella married Gray and they moved to Tennessee.
  5. Mary Culbertson:
    Born September 21, 1795..
    Mary had 3 daughters in Missouri.
  6. John Culbertson:
    Born January 1, 1798.
    Died July 23, 1843 in Hickory County, Missouri.
    On August 17, 1827 John married Comfort Osborne.
    They lived for a few years in Scott County, Virginia and then moved to Missouri.
    John and Comfort had 9 children.
    1. Nancy Culbertson: Born May 28, 1828. Died June 26, 1875.
    2. Jane Culbertson: Born Jan, 16, 1830. Died September 21, 1888.
    3. William Culbertson: Born July 14, 1832.
    4. John A. Culbertson: Born February 6, 1833. Never married. Phoenix, Arizona.
    5. Stephen Culbertson: Born October 8, 1834. Lived in Missiouri.
    6. Jephthan Culbertson: Born July 20, 1836.
    7. Erena Culbertson: Born May 21, 1838.
    8. Pauline Culbertson: Born January 2, 1840. Died February 22, 1864.
    9. Rebecca Culbertson: Born December 9, 1841. Died September 16, 1864.
  7. Charles "Big Charles" Culbertson:
    Born January 27, 1800.
    Died 1882.
    Charles married Nancy Osborne and they lived in Scott County, Virginia.
    Charles and Nancy had 10 Children.
  8. James Culbertson:
    Born May 21, 1802.
    Died 1884.
    James was a Captain during the Civil War.
    In 1823 James married Elizabeth Harris.
  9. William Culbertson:
    Born January 31, 1805.
    Died 1843 in Missiouri.
    William never married.
  10. Joseph Culbertson:
    Born May 22, 1807.
    Joseph married Polly Dorton, daughter of Joseph Dorton and Martha Fugate.
    Joseph and Polly had children as follows:
    Edward, Sarah, Jane, Joseph Culbertson Jr., Mary Polly, Unity (Laura) Nancy, Martha, James, Phebe.
  11. Martha Culbertson:
    Born August 22, 1809.
    Died in infancy.
  12. Jephata Culbertson:
    Born May 30, 1813.
    Died 1878.
    Jephata married Elimira Pullman and had 10 children in Missiouri.
