George James Baker:
The Will of James Baker.
Born about 1815 in Russell County, Virginia.
Died May 27, 1885 of lung disease in Russell County, Virginia.
James was a farmer.
James married Highley (Hiley) J. Johnson.
Highley was born in 1819 in North Carolina.
Highley died September 1, 1888 (70 years old, died from the flux).
Highley helped in the construction of Molls Creek Church in the late 1840's.
George and Highley had the following 7 children:

  1. Joseph C. (Cleveland) Baker:
    Born April 16, 1839 in Russell County, Virginia.
    Died April 3, 1919 in Russell County, Virginia (80 years old, Buried at Baker's Cemetery).
    On November 4, 1865 Joseph married Martha (Patsy) Kilgore in Scott County, Virginia.
    Patsy was the daughter of Robert H. Kilgore and Elizabeth Hartsock-Kilgore.
    Patsy was born April 28, 1844.
    Patsy died October 13, 1880 from fever (Buried at Baker's Cemetery).
    On August 2, 1881 Joseph married Mary Louise Dean.
    Mary was born 1859.
    Mary died 1936 (Buried at Baker's Cemetery).
    Joseph C. Baker was shot by his oldest son, Joseph Hopkins Baker, son of Mary Louisa Dean, on Baker"s Ridge.
  2. Mary Ellen Baker:
    Born December 14, 1840.
    On March 1, 1865 Mary married Archer L. Meade. The marriage was done by David Jessee.
    Archer was the son of Nathan Thacker Meade and Mary Elizabeth Jesse-Meade.
  3. Nathaniel D. Baker:
    Born March 10, 1843.
    On November 4, 1865 Nathaniel married Mary Kilgore.
    Mary was the daughter of Robert H. and Elizabeth Hartsock Kilgore.
    Nathanial and Joseph C. married sisters and got their marriage license the same day.
  4. John Baker:
    Born February 4, 1845 in Russell County, Virginia.
    Died sometime between 1880 and 1885 (he was stabbed) and he is buried at Baker's Ridge.
    On February 20, 1864 John married Mary Minton in Russell County, Virginia.
    Mary was the daughter of Nancy Meade and Phillip Minton.
  5. George J. (James) Baker:
    Born March 8, 1847 in Russell County, Virginia.
    Died April 6, 1853 (Age 6 years and 28 days).
  6. Sarah T. (Sally) Baker:
    Born May 25, 1849.
    Died November 17, 1873 (Age 24).
    On January 8, 1867 Sarah married Archer S. Jessee.
  7. William J. Baker:
    Born September 27, 1851 in Russell County, Virginia.
    Died April 5, 1894 in Russell County, Virginia from gunshot wounds reported by his son-in-law.
    On June 28, 1871 William married Nancy Meade.
    Nancy was the daughter of Nathan Thacker Meade and Mary Meade.
