During Hard Times Will You Accept God's Help?

During a serious hard times tragedy event you will probably discover that you need God a lot more than you ever realized. The reason is because you will be exposed on a daily basis to all the following:
- Shortages: Basic human necessities will become scarce and they will become extremely difficult to obtain. This includes things that many people now take for granted, such as safe drinking water, and food, and a safe place to sleep each night. Anything can happen to your reserve water, and your reserve food, and your place of shelter and you could quickly become a homeless helpless refugee. Wouldn't it make good sense to pray to the "One Who Provides All" and ask Him to protect your home and your supplies and your family from loss and harm.
- Crime: All types of crime will increase. Almost everyone will need almost everything. An overwhelming number of people will be forced to make the following very simple decision, "Should I sit down and wait to die a slow agonizing death due to dehydration, or starvation, or exposure, or should I 'temporarily' set my morals aside and confiscate (steal) the things I need for survival?" After a person intellectually justifies that first theft then each new theft becomes much easier. And sooner or later it will become necessary to kill someone during a theft and then each new murder will become much easier. In this type of high crime environment some people will believe they can successfully defend themselves from these thieves and murderers. But a smart person will realize that there is no way you can defend yourself from a unexpected bullet in the back of the head. However, you can pray that "He Who Sees All" will protect you and your family from harm on an ongoing basis.
- Food: If you decide to grow your own food and to hunt, trap, and fish, then you will quickly discover that nature can defeat your very best efforts. And there is no way you can control nature. However, you can pray to the "One Who Does Control Nature" and improve your chances of being successful at gardening, hunting, trapping, and fishing.
- Natural Disasters: Nobody is safe from a natural disaster. Without warning an earthquake could happen anywhere. Without warning a gentle rain could turn into a deluge and your entire area could be flooded. Without warning a tornado could completely devastate an area. There is no way a person can protect his family from a natural disaster. But there is "One Who Can Protect Your Family" and He is only a prayer away 24 hours per day 7 days per week.
- Death: If an unexpected accident were to instantly claim your life (or the life of someone you love) then you (or your loved one) would be immediately transported to either heaven or hell. The only way to avoid hell and be guaranteed eternal life in glory is to know Jesus Christ as your personal Savior. How can you do this? By believing that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and then asking the "One Who Sent His Son" to forgive your sins. Then you should ask "He Who Knows All" to please help you grow each day in the Christian faith.
For all the above reasons I suggest you own at least one good reference study Bible and that you read it on a regular basis with your family.
My personal choice is the following Bible: Nelson's New King James Version (NKJV) Study Bible.
I strongly recommend the above Bible because:
- Each book of the Bible has a really good introduction that includes the historical background about that book.
- Each page contains excellent detailed footnotes and simple explanations of specific scripture verses on that page.
- It has good word definitions on the exact page the word is actually used in the Bible.
- It has a great subject index.
- It has a few full color maps in the back of the Bible.
The above Bible would be a good choice for someone who does not already own a good Bible.
However, if you already have a good Bible then instead of buying another one it may be a better idea if you simply read the Bible you already have. May I suggest that you start on the first page of the book of Genesis and continue to read, as time permits, until you finish the last page of the book of Revelation. Then do it again. And again. And again for the rest of your life.
2 Chronicles 7:13-14
When I shut up heaven and there is no rain,
or command the locust to devour the land, or send pestilence among My people,
if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves,
and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways,
then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
Matthew 6:31-33
Therefore do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat? or What shall we drink? or What shall we wear?'
For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need these things.
But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
