This solution to The Wild West of the 1870's is divided into three major sections as follows:

Section One: Coded Hints for All the Puzzles in Each of the Three Games.

Section Two: Step-by-Step Solutions to Each of the Three Games (Written in English with No Codes).

Section Three: Detailed Maps of Each Town in the Game.

Section One

Coded Hints for All the Puzzles in Each of the Three Games

Frequently someone who is playing this game will only need ONE hint to finish the game. And they ONLY want to see that one specific hint, because they prefer to figure out the solutions to the other puzzles on their own.

If the hints were written in standard sentence form, then a person might accidentally see the solution to several puzzles they had not yet encountered while trying to find the one hint they are looking for. Therefore, the hints in this first section have been coded to prevent you from seeing an answer you don't wish to see. The information in Sections Two and Three is NOT coded.

To decode the following hints, substitute the next letter in the alphabet as follows:

a = bh = io = pv = w
b = ci = jp = qw = x
c = dj = kq = rx = y
d = ek = lr = sy = z
e = fl = ms = tz = a
f = gm = nt = u
g = hn = ou = v

Section Two

The Solution to Game One

Go to the Sheriff's Office and read the Wanted Posters. Ask the Sheriff about each of the outlaws. Also ask the Sheriff about the Apache, the Comanche, and the Navaho Indians. Go to the Doctor's Home and ask his wife about your note. Go to the Saloon and play the game of High-Low until you win all the dealer's money. (Bet the maximum amount of $10 because you should be able to guess correctly most of the time in this game.)

Before 3:30 PM, return to the Train Station and buy a train ticket to Dry Gulch. Wait at the Passenger Platform for the train to arrive. Get on the train and shoot the outlaw, Drew Swisher, with your pistol. Either wait for the train to stop, or go to the dining car and play Five Card Stud to win some more money. When the train stops in Dry Gulch, buy a ticket back to El Paso.

Go to the Saloon and rent a room for the night. In the morning, get back on the train and return to El Paso. Go to the Sheriff's Office and you will receive $750 for catching the outlaw Drew Swisher.

Go to the Gunsmith Shop and buy a rifle, a pistol, and as many rifle and pistol bullets as you can. Load your rifle and your pistol. Go to the Hardware Store and buy a hatchet, a knife, and a sluicing pan.

On the way to the General Store, fill your canteen at the water pump. At the General Store, buy two more ropes, an oil lantern, some lantern oil, a bedroll, a bandage, and about 12 cans of beans. (Note: Put the bandage on your wounds after an Indian battle.)

Go across the street to the Blacksmith and buy a Pony, a currycomb, and 14 sacks of grain. Get on the Pony and ride North to the badlands of New Mexico. If you see either a Bobcat or a Coyote, shoot at it with your rifle.

When you enter the Badlands, go W,N,N,E,E,S,E. Cut down the trees and take the poles. Ride E,N,N,N,E,N,N,E. Fill your canteen. Build a corral at the Waterhole (using the poles and one of your ropes).

Ride West and then East back to the Waterhole. Keep doing this until the Palomino is at the Waterhole. Then close the corral gate. Lasso the Palomino. Take the saddle off the Pony and put it on the Palomino. Keep getting on the Palomino until it stops bucking you off. Open the corral gate, and take the reins of your Pony. (NOTE: Each night that you are on the trail, you should curry your horse before you go to sleep. In addition, whenever you pass an area with grass, hay, alfalfa, mesquite, or straw, you should graze your horse to save on grain.)

Ride W,S,S,E,S,S. Shoot Jesse James with your pistol. Ride N,N,W,N,N,W,W,S,W,W,W,N,W,W,S,W.

Shoot the Indians with your rifle. The last Indian will capture you and stake you out on the ground. When he falls asleep, break the empty whiskey bottle. Cut the rawhide strips with the piece of glass. Shoot the Indian Sly Fox with your rifle. Get on the Palomino, and take the reins of your Pony. Ride W,N. Fill your canteen. Ride S,S,S,W,W,W out of the Badlands.

Continue West to Fort James. Purchase the supplies you need (bullets and food). Then ride North to Silver City. Go to the Sheriff's Office and you will be paid $2,000 for Jesse James. Sell your Pony to the Blacksmith. Buy some horseshoes for the Palomino. Go the Doctor's Home and ask him about Jeff. Go to the Cafe and lasso Bonnie Black. Go to the Sheriff's Office and collect the $1,750 reward. Fill your canteen, and buy more supplies (and grain sacks) before you leave town.

Ride to the West end of town, and head South to the Ghost Town. When you get there, fill your canteen at the well, and feed your horse some hay at the livery stable. Continue West to the town of Paradise.

Buy supplies in Paradise, and fill your canteen. Ride to the West end of town, and then ride South towards Prieta. You will cross a stream along the way. Fill your canteen and sluice with the pan. Take the gold nugget. When you get to Prieta, go to the Cantina and shoot the Laredo Kid with your pistol. Return to the town of Paradise and collect the reward of $2,500 for him. Go to the Saloon, and speak to the drunk. Buy him a drink. Listen to his story. Before you leave town, you may want to put some of your money in the bank for safe keeping.

Buy as many supplies as you can carry in Paradise, and ride to the West end of town. Ride West to Tombstone. As you go down the street in Tombstone, the Gunsmith will tell you that his wife was captured by the Apaches. He will offer you a $2,000 reward to rescue her. Remember what the Sheriff told you about the Apache Indians. If you have forgotten, ask the Gunsmith about the Apaches.Fill your canteen, and ride to the West end of town. Ride North to the Mining Camp. Stop at the Assay Tent in the Mining Camp and sell your gold nugget. Then travel North towards the Apache Camp.

About 20 miles north of the Mining Camp, the trail will branch to the West and East. You will find a stream off to the West. Fill your canteen there, and sluice with the pan. Take the gold nugget. Continue East to the Apache Camp. Leave your horse in the thicket to the West of the trail. Swim West in the stream, and walk North to the last teepee. Cut a hole in the teepee. Go East into the teepee. Untie Anita. She will now follow you back to Tombstone. Leave the camp the same way you entered. Stop at the Assay Tent in the Mining Camp and sell your gold nugget.

Go to the Gunsmith Shop in Tombstone and collect the $2,000 reward. Accept his offer to become Sheriff. Go to the Sheriff's Office and remove the board from the door. Wait until morning. Agree to the gentleman's proposal. Later that day, visit the new General Store and buy some more supplies.Wait until the next day. Load your pistol. Go to Black Bart's Gambling House and ask Bart to leave town. Shoot Bart with your pistol. Shoot Fred with your pistol. Wait until the next day. Agree to the man's proposal. Go to Kitty's place and ask Kitty to leave town. If she offers a compromise, refuse her proposal. Wait until the next day. Agree to the man's proposal. Go to Dirty Dan's Saloon and ask Dan to leave town. Refuse his proposal. Wait until the next day. Visit the new church. Listen to what the Preacher has to tell you.

Ride East to Paradise. Buy supplies. Ride North to Silver City. Buy Supplies. Ride North out of town. When you see the Cliff Dwellings in the distance to the north, ride East and cut down the thin trees. Take the poles. Ride W,N. Go West until you are at the foot of the cliff. Build a ladder. Go Up to level two. Go East and take the silver cup. Go West to the room with the smooth walls, and Push on the Wall. Light your lantern. Go West into the Lost City of Gold. Go Up to level two. Look under the rocks. Take the gold bar. Go East. Take the golden statue. Return to Silver City and sell all three items at the Assay Office.Buy some supplies, and put some money in the bank. Then ride to Tucson. Go to the Saloon and shoot Sandy Peterson. Go to the Sheriff's Office and collect the $1,000 reward. Walk around the town of Tucson and enter the stores until you find the Banker. Ask him about Jeff. Buy supplies, and ride West into the Desert of Death. If you see the Gila Monster, shoot it with your rifle. Jackson Smith, alias Casey Wright, is hiding at a small Waterhole in the North central part of the desert. Shoot him with your pistol when you see him. Go tot he Southwest side of the Desert. You will find a dead prospector there. Look under the prospector. Take the sack of silver. Return to Tucson and sell the silver at the Assay Office. Collect the $1,500 reward for Jackson Smith at the Sheriff's Office.

Buy supplies, and put some money in the bank. Ride back to Paradise. Keep entering the stores until you find Sally Sloan, the Banker. Ask Sally about the note. Congratulations. You just won the game.

The Solution to Game Two

You should begin by winning some money at High-Low at the Saloon in El Paso. Buy a Pony, some grain, and a set of animal traps. Ride East to the Hays' Ranch. Go to the Comanche Indian camp after sundown, and trade the traps for the boy. Return to the Hays' ranch and collect the reward. Enter the bunkhouse and shoot the outlaw Blake Yancey with your pistol. Return to El Paso, collect the reward, and buy all the supplies you need.

From this point on, you could play the game in an endless number of different ways. The important differences between Game Two and Game One are as follows:

The Location of the other Outlaws:
Cole Younger ($2500): He's hiding south of the Navaho Camp.
Ringo Redford ($2250): He's in the Saloon in Paradise.
Jill Hanes ($2000): She sometimes stays at Ellen's Boarding House in Paradise.
Joel Longshore ($1000): He's at the Stage Office in Tucson.
Patrick Cloud ($500): He's in the Dry Gulch Saloon.

To Escape from the Comanche Indian after he stakes you to the ground: Break the whiskey bottle. Burn the rawhide strips.

How to Find Johnny O'Riley's Lost Silver Mine:
Speak to the drunk and buy him a drink. Ask anyone about the mine. Go and talk to the trapper who lives north of Silver City. Ask him about Johnny. Go to Paradise. Ask the Blacksmith about Johnny. Go to the Ghost Town and then head East. Go North at the first branch in the trail. Light your lantern. Dig three times in the old mine shaft. Then go down into the mine and dig in the southern most area. Take the silver ore. Go to Silver City and file your claim at the Court House. When you come out of the Court House, agree to the Assay Agent's offer. Sell the silver ore at the Assay Office.

How to Find Your Parents:
In El Paso, Ask the Preacher about your note.
Clue Two: Ask the Preacher in Silver City about Judith.
Clue Three: Ask the Reporter in Tombstone about Judith.
The Solution: Go to the Ghost Town. Look in the cashbox in the old General Store. Read the letter. Go to Fort James. Ask Nick about the note.

The Solution to Game Three

You should begin by winning some money at High-Low at the Saloon in El Paso. Buy a Pony, some grain, and a set of animal traps. Ride East to the Hays' Rancy. Continue on to Dry Gulch. Continue on towards the Comanche Camp. Along the way you will run into the outlaw Duffy McCabe. Shoot him with your pistol. Go to the Comanche Indian camp after sundown, and trade the traps for the boy. Return to the Hays' Ranch and collect the reward for the boy. Return to El Paso and collect the reward for Duffy McCabe. Buy all the supplies you need.

From this point on, you could play the game in an endless number of different ways. The important differences between Game Three and Game One are as follows:

The Location of the other Outlaws:
Amy Devoe ($3000): She sometimes hides in the Tucson Church.
Lefty McCabe ($2000): He's inside the Cavern in the Badlands.
Butch Smith ($1750): He sometimes eats at the food market in Prieta.
Kevin Kiser ($1250): He's hiding in the Saloon in the Mining Camp.
Slick Holland ($900): He's hiding in the Ghost Town.

To Escape from the Comanche Indian after he has staked you to the ground. Pull the stakes up.

How to Find the Lost Aztec Treasure Chest:
Speak to the two drifters, Ladd Lassiter and Zach Smith, when you see them. Each Drifter will sell you half of a map. When you have the entire map, examine it. Go to the Badlands North of El Paso. Go West from the boulders. Light your lantern. Go W,N,W. Dig three times at the spring of water. Take the Treasure Chest to an Assay Office and sell it.

How to Find Your Parents:
In El Paso, Ask the Restaurant Waitress about your note.
Clue Two: Ask the Blacksmith in Silver City about Mac.
CLue Three: Ask Shane Downey (at his farm east of Tombstone) about Jinny.
Clue Four: When you get to Tucson, ask the Banker about Mac.
The Solution: Read the grave market on Tucson's boothill. Ask the Preacher for the envelope.
